Did you know that the Smithsonian Institution designates shade-grown coffee as the second-best bird habitat on earth?, second only to untouched virgin forest? The Smithsonian and the Audubon Society both deem shade-grown coffee to be "bird friendly".

The Smithsonian has published two brief and informative PDF reports about bird friendly coffee. Click here to read "Bird Friendly Coffee". Click here for "Why Birds Love Coffee".

For years now, many large-scale corporate coffee producers have been planting a variety of coffee that can grow in full sunlight. This has led to widespread deforestation in Latin American coffee-growing regions as land is cleared to accomodate this type of coffee.

At Finca Santa Isabel, we only grow environmentally-friendly shade-grown coffee.

Today we are in the process of getting the Rainforest Alliance Certification.

We have built a fascinating nature trail that winds through the lush forests of the finca. We will add a visitor center, conference center, and wildlife viewing platforms as well.

We have also convert our processing plant to a gravity-fed system, which is more environmentally-friendly.

Visitors to Finca Santa Isabel will be able to immerse themselves into the coffee culture and fabulous nature of western Honduras.

Shade-grown coffee keeps forests intact, which is not just beneficial to regional wildlife. The truth is shade-grown coffee simply tastes better.

We invite you to visit our finca to see for yourself. But if can't visit us, you can support environmentall-friendly coffee cultivation by buying our coffee Click here to visit our online store.
